Vacation Fashion Planning

In this video, I wanted to talk about how to pack and plan your vacation outfits. Thankfully life is opening back out which means more getaways and vacays but packing for trips can be tricky. We tend to overthink leading us to overpack and the whole process can feel a little chaotic. I’ve got a few tips I wanted to share to make your vacation fashion planning a breeze.

Before we dive in, I’m Emmaline Chappell and I’m a certified personal stylist. I have my own business here in Richmond. I help busy women elevate their style by rediscovering the joy of dressing to look luxe for less.

So the first let’s with a few guidelines to consider when you’re packing. First is color: try to choose pieces that are in the same color family or complement each other. You want your pieces to be easy to mix and match. The second element is fabric. Don’t pack pieces that aren’t suitable like high maintenance fabrics that wrinkle or aren’t comfortable to wear. You want light, fast drying, durable and breathable fabrics.

Another top tip is to pack outfits, not random pieces. Packing fully planned out looks helps reduce overpacking too many items and it makes it easy to choose to what to wear quickly when you’re on vacation so that you’re not standing in your hotel room playing dress up. And when you’re packing your outfits, try to be as thoughtful as you can about what looks you’ll be needing. Check the weather for your vacation destination to make sure your looks are suitable for the forecast and be realistic about what you’re going to want to wear for all of your activities during your stay.

Now let’s talk shoes. Try to be extra mindful when packing shoes because they quickly take up storage space. Choose shoes that are comfortable that can be styled with multiple outfits. So pick your stylish sneakers you can workout in but can also be worn with your breezy dresses for your tourist days of walking around. Or pick block heel sandals that transition from day to night.

Another important area to talk about is accessory packing. Let’s start with jewelry. My method is that I’ll switch up my earrings for each outfit but I’ll keep the same stack of bracelets. That way I’m not packing excessive amounts of jewelry for each outfit. And when it comes to bags, the same tip with shoes packing applies, choose stylish bags that serve multiple uses. Like a tote that works on the flight but also on the beach or a shoulder bag perfect for your days out around the town but also nights out.

When it comes to vacation packing, keep one word in mind: versatility. Pack outfits that will coordinate well together, mix and matched easily.
