Personal Style & Personal Brand
Happy Monday! In this video, I want to talk about the relationship between your personal brand and your personal style.
Many of my clients are busy business women. They work for companies or run their own small businesses. When they think of the word personal brand they think your mission statement, your core values, your font, your colors etc. one element most women don’t think about is their style. And I always tell them: your personal brand is synonymous with your personal style And thats why it’s very important that your style is reflecting you as a woman, your business and your brand.
Before we dive in, I’ll give you a quick introduction, I’m Emmaline Chappell and I’m a certified personal stylist. I have my own company called emmaline’s personal styling. I help busy women elevate their style by discovering a new way of dressing to look luxe for less.
So I want to briefly share the importance of your style and how you present yourself when it comes to your business.
Your personal style is a part of your brand because it’s another form of communication to your audience, it’s a part of your identity and impacts how you show up.
We know that people make an impression within 7 seconds of interaction and if you’re not presenting yourself well, that can definitely effect their perception of you and it may cost you losing a potential client. We live in a visual world where we make assumptions and impressions all from what we see whether that’s in person, social media or your website.
Before you leave the house or turn on your camera for zoom, ask yourself: am I presenting myself to make a lasting first impression or a bad first impression.
It’s important to start asking yourself “what does my style say about me to my potential clients?” look at your wardrobe and analyze pictures of yourself to see what message you’re sending from the way you’re dressing.
Is your clothing outdated but your business is innovative and modern or is your clothing making you look more mature but your target market is youthful.
These are questions you should be asking yourself to make sure your style is consistent with who you are as a brand and business woman.
My last tip, think of your personal style as your packaging, we always want to be a walking image of your brand. No matter your occupation, your image should be purposeful. Just because you may work in a casual environment doesn’t mean your clothing should reflect a super relaxed appearance. Try to get in the habit of putting thought into what you’re wearing, no matter where you are. It doesn’t have to be extremely formal at all times. As long as you looked put together, polished and you can’t sleep in your outfit, you’re on the right path.
Even for me, no matter where I am, I try to make sure I look presentable even if I’m running to the grocery store, I’ll throw on a nice pair of fitting jeans, a t shirt, a pair of colorful earrings, and a fun pair of comfortable shoes. It’s easy and simple but I still look neat and tidy. As a stylist, I can’t show up in super baggy sweats, looking like I rolled out of bed, potential clients wouldn’t take me serious. So always keep that in mind, your image reflects your brand and who you are and others are forming an opinion based on it.
