How to Style Boots
So today, I wanted to about shoes, specifically boots. So it’s officially fall and we’re heading into the colder climates and the shoe for this season is always boots. Ankle boots, knee high boots, over the knee boots. But I get asked by women a lot “how do I style my boots with my outfits” and most of the time, the burning question is about their jeans. There’s so many cuts of jeans and hem lengths that it can feel confusing on knowing which boots to style with which jeans. So I’m going to break down some top tips I use on how to style your boots with your jeans. These tips are pretty general no matter your height but I am going to do another video on styling shoes and boots for the petite women out there so stay tuned in the new year for that video.
So let’s start with the everyday ankle boot. This boot hits right at the ankle. It may or may not have a chunkier heel. This is my top tip that I tell every client. When it comes to ankle boots, we want the design to be sleek and fitted. A lot of times I see ankle boots that are bulky and chunky and it never gives a clean look with jeans. You want the boot to have a pointed toe and be fitted at the ankle. This creates a much more flattering visual. In my opinion, the best ankle boot is a sock boot. It fits to your ankle and foot like a sock, it has a pointed toe and it looks good with any jean. Wide leg, bootcut, skinny, straight. The more fitted to your ankle and foot the bootie is, the more sleek you’re going to look.
Next we have the combat boot. Combat boots are great with skinny jeans tucked in, straight leg jeans hanging over the boot and they also look really cute with flowy skirts or dresses. The one style of jean I would avoid is slight flare cropped jeans or culotte pants. This style of jeans or pants has a wider design and the combat boot styled with it can make your legs look stumpy, the image looks more messy and it isn’t as clean and flattering.
Then there’s the fun colored or printed boot. It’s great to have fun pair of boots in your closet to shuzzez up your outfits. for colored boots you can let the shoe be the statement factor in your outfit or you can style other colorful garments with it that complement the color of the boot. if it’s printed, try to style it with pieces in your outfits that coordinate with the color palette of the print. Depending on where they hit will determine what style jeans to wear. If they’re fitted like a sock boot, any style jean will do. And for white boots in particular, style it with lighter wash denim. The lightness of the jeans and the boots tricks the eye and emphasizes one long line and elongates your figure.
Lastly is the knee high boot. whether it’s a wider shaft or a tighter shaft these black suede boots, the best way to style them is tucked in to skinny jeans. And make sure the jean is very fitted to your ankle otherwise the fabric will lump up in the boot. You can also do knee high boots with dresses and tights. Now let’s pretend this boot extended over the knee. For over the knee boots, again you want a very skinny pant. And for both knee high and over the knee boots, try to match the color of the boot with the color of the jean. This is going to create one long line and elongate your figure for a really flattering and clean image. You could also do an over the knee boot with a shorter skirt or dress and let just a sliver of skin on the thigh show for a sexy and flirty appeal.
Those are a few of my tips when it comes to styling boots for the colder seasons. I’m going to do a second part of this video where I talk about when to tuck, roll and cuff your jeans with your boots. Because I find that that can be tricky for women as well.
