Time for a Closet Edit!

So today, I wanted to talk about closet edits. Spring is right around the corner which means it’s time for a little spring cleaning and decluttering your wardrobe as we head into the new season. Closet edits are a pretty in depth process so I’m gonna break it down into a few videos.

For this first video I wanna talk about why closet edits are a super important practice to do and how to identify when it’s time for one.

There’s a lot of psychology behind closet edits. It’s more than just getting rid of pieces, it’s a time to analyze your shopping habits, assess your wardrobe goals, create a shopping plan.

Closet edits are a time to think about the future and dressing the woman you’re becoming.

I feel like our closets don’t get enough praise. We get so used to our closets just being there that we don’t see the importance of them.

But if you think about it it’s the center point for every aspect of your style. It holds all the pieces you’ve curated that represent who you are and it’s where you get dressed every day.

We gotta start treating our closets like the wonderful space they are. It’s a space for us to prioritize ourselves.

Getting dressed is something we do each day, it should feel fun and easy, not a challenging task.

A disorganized, cluttered closet creates a frustrating approach to getting dressed which can lead to starting off your day with bad energy, wasting time, running late and feeling stressed.

But when your closet is clean & organized, it makes getting dressed so much easier.

So it’s a great idea to do some type of edit at least twice a year. The best practice would be every season.

Because the more you prolong taking some time to go through your closet every year and edit out what doesn’t suit you anymore, the more cluttered and unkept it’ll become until one day you wake up and realize how of control it’s gotten.

That moment of realization can pop up a couple of ways.

First sign: You’re missing essential pieces that are specific to your day to day life.

Maybe a style staple for your closet is a pair of pants that can be worn from day to night but you keep realizing that you really don’t have these types of pants to grab for those frequent occasions which is making it hard to get dressed for your schedule because missing this essential.

Sign 2: you have the same garment in like 20 different colors. There’s nothing wrong with buying a piece that you love in a couple colors but my limit is four. You start going above that and you’re creating a packed closet.

Sign 3: still have clothes from your college days and maybe even high school. It’s hard to part with our past but we have to make room for our bright future. You’re not wearing and don’t reflect

One of the main signs I see most often is having a closet that’s full but you feel like you have nothing to wear so you just wear the same rotation of pieces. Just having a full closet doesn’t mean it’s the perfect wardrobe.

Our goal should always be to have a closet that’s filled only with pieces we love to wear and that suit our lifestyle. You want a closet that works for you. so that’s the basics on closet edits. Stay tuned for the next couple of videos.
