1. Happy Monday! During this LIVE want to briefly discuss how to break out of a style rut without spending a dime . As women, we’ve all experienced a style rut every now and again. Especially during January, we tend to feel bleh with our wardrobe. It’s the middle of winter, we’re tired of the cold weather and we’re wishing the seasons would change. So I want to give you a few tips on how to break out of your style rut without spending money on anything new. But before we dive in, wanted to give you a quick introduction, I’m Emmaline Chappell and I’m a certified personal stylist. I have my own company called emmaline’s personal styling. I help busy women elevate their style by discovering a new way of dressing to look luxe for less. Today, I want to briefly discuss style ruts and breaking out of one

First things first: what is a style rut . It can take multiple forms: here’s a few: feeling uninspired with your outfit choices, feeling like you have nothing to wear, wearing the same outfits week after week, buying the same style garments each time you shop, having many pieces in your closet that are never worn. These are just a few. A style rut is basically when you get stuck in one way of dressing.

My first tip is identifying that you’re experiencing a style rut . Don’t let it get you down, let it be a time to embrace exciting new changes with your wardrobe. Recognizing it is the first best step to solving it. Tip two is give your closet a mini edit. Editing your whole closet while in a rut can be overwhelming. Best to take some time out of your week to edit a small section of your closet and get rid of what you feel ready to let go of, pieces that immediately don’t make you feel your best. This’ll help you declutter and begin to see you pieces with a clearer eye, you even find some pieces you love but forgot you had. Tip three get inspired. Watch movies or shows with stylish characters you admire, look at fashion magazines or look up a stylish celebrity you like and find 5 pictures that ignite some fresh, new style inspo for you. It could be pictures of specific outfits or a certain style aesthetic. But the idea is for these 5 fashion photos you selected to help you create a vision for your style that feels fresh to recreate it with what you already have in your closet. Word of caution on browsing platforms like Instagram or Pinterest for your inspo, it can take you down a rabbit hole of feeling worse if you’re in a really bad style rut when you see so many pictures of influencers who look stylishly perfect all the time. But by all means use it as a source but be careful.

Tip four utilize accessories. I find that when my clients are having a style rut, they have abandoned their accessories all together, it’s something they haven't been reaching for and they forgot how many great bags, jewelry and shoes they have. Accessories are one of the easiest ways to update your look and help you feel inspired. Add a scarf, a statement shoe, a hair accessory or a piece of jewelry you’ve been neglecting with one of your go-to outfits, it’ll instantly create a whole new look.

Tip five shop your closet. This is the best process to see you have way more to work with than you realize, I guarantee it, I see this every time with my clients. Spend some time each week to just play in your closet, put on some music and let this be a time where you challenge yourself to pull out pieces and create new outfit combos, maybe try to challenge yourself to pair a fav piece with a piece you never wear, this could create a whole new outfit idea for you. Try to be as fluid as possible, don’t overthink this process and step out of your comfort zone. I promise you, you’ll discover hidden gems.

Those are tips on how to break out of style rut, no shopping needed. If you want more in depth help, that’s where someone like me, a personal stylist, can help you further.
