Summer Outfit Ideas to Get You Inspired to Get Dressed

In this video, I wanted to give you some summer outfit ideas to inspire you for your post-pandemic style comeback. I’m so happy things are opening back up around this time of the year, I feel like summer is the best time for us ladies to have our big style debut as we start going out into the world again. It’s sunny, it’s warm, it’s just fun season. So I’ve pulled some essential pieces that most of us already have in our closets for these outfit ideas. These few pieces are going to make it super easy to create lots of put together, joyful and summer friendly outfits so you can be ready for any occasion.

Before we dive in, I’ll give you a quick introduction, I’m Emmaline Chappell and I’m a certified personal stylist. I have my own business here in Richmond. I help busy women elevate their style by discovering a new way of dressing to look luxe for less.

The first piece is a light weight blazer. This is perfect for those times where the ac is feeling too chilly indoors but it’s not too hot for those summer evenings. You could style it with your favorite tshirt, a denim skirt, a fun clutch and minimal jewelry. This would be a great outfit for rooftop drinks. You could also drape it over a breezy sun dress with a pair of neutral mules. It’s an easy but polished look for going back to the office.

My second piece is a relaxed button down. This sharp piece is really a style chameleon. You can style with your summer skirts, dress up a pair of ripped denim, you can tie it at the waist to crop it or you can even wear it as a swimsuit cover up. You could go with a classic white or off white button down or you could do printed or choose styles that have big cuffs or exaggerated collars.

My third piece is a pair of loose pants. Relaxed cut pants are super in this year and you have lots of options. These could be trousers, jeans, printed, whatever you fancy and bonus point if they’re white, white bottoms are great for summer. You could dress up your looser pant with a strappy heel and an off the shoulder blouse for date night or you could style your waist tie button down with it, add a printed belt and a pair of sneakers for running errands.

My fourth piece is a crop top. There’s just something about having that small cut off design, no matter how big of a crop it is, that makes your outfit feel so easy yet flirty. It’s a better and cooler choice I find rather than tucking your t shirt into whatever bottom you’re wearing. You throw on a crop top with your high waist bottoms and the visual is instantly more put together. You can dress your crop top up or down. You could go simple with a colorful crop top, a white denim skirt, a pair of sneakers and some hoops and you’re ready for a summer bbq.

My fifth piece is a pair of neutral shoe. It could be a sandal, a heel, a pointed toe mule, a wedge or a flat. But the key is to have at least two pairs of neutral shoes in your wardrobe. The neutral color will do two things. It’ll go with any outfit you wear this summer and it’ll make your legs look longer.

My sixth piece is of course a sun dress. It wouldn’t be summer if you didn’t include a dress in outfit rotations. When I think of summer dress, I always think of lots of movement, so I like going for smock or babydoll styles. But if you want something more sexy and sleek you could do a slinky slip dress. Depending on the style you choose, you can drape a blazer over it, you could belt it or if it buttons all the way down, you could wear it unbuttoned as a summer duster jacket.

My last piece is more a category rather than an individual piece and that category would be fun accessories. A summer outfit isn’t complete without a sparkly, colorful, chunky or classic accessory. Really let yourself experiment with accessories this season. You so many options, anything from floppy sun hats, to printed silk scarves to straw handbags. Choose pieces that speak to your personal style. That’s the fun of accessories, there’s so selections that fit any personal style, you can go as subdued or understated as you want or you can go as bold and colorful as you’d like.
